What We'll Do

Your Cookies

  1. Step 1

    For this step you'll need:

Preheat your oven to 375˚F (190˚C). In a medium bowl, add your flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix them together. Set aside for now.

  2. Step 2

For this step you'll need: Next, let's prepare your pecans. Finely chop your pecans and then divide them in half. We are going to use 1/2 cup (50g) for the cookie dough and the other half for the nutty sprinkle toppings at the end. :-)
  3. Step 3

    For this step you'll need:

In your main mixing bowl, add your butter and sugar and mix until smooth. Having a mixer is optional for this recipe as this cookie dough can be mixed by hand with a spatula.

  4. Step 4

For this step you'll need: Add your egg and vanilla extract and continue mixing.
  5. Step 5

    For this step you'll need:

    • Premixed Dry Ingredients From Step 1

Add 1/2 cup of your 6 premixed dry ingredients from step 1 (flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg) into the your main mixing bowl and mix together.

  6. Step 6

    For this step you'll need:

Then, add a little of your sour cream in and mix together. Continue alternating between 1/2 cup of your 6 premixed dry ingredients from step 1 and your sour cream until everything has been mixed in.

  7. Step 7

    For this step you'll need:
    • Chopped Pecans From Step 2
Add in 1/2 cup (50g) of your chopped pecans into your main mixing bowl and mix with a spatula by hand.
  8. Step 8

For this step you'll need: Lay a sheet of parchment on your baking trays. Grab about 1 big tablespoon of your cookie dough (about the size of a walnut) and place them on the tray. These cookies don't really spread that much and I found that 12 fit comfortably on my 17" baking tray.
  9. Step 9

    For this step you'll need:

Bake for 10 minutes in your preheated oven 375˚F (190˚C). When done baking, if you have a cooling rack, place your cookies on it for them to cool. Tinfoil on the counter top or a plate will work as well. While they cooling, we are going to make the brown buttercream frosting! :-)

  10. Step 10

For this step you'll need: In a small saucepan, add your butter and turn the heat up to medium high on your stove top.
  11. Step 11

    For this step you'll need:

Stir your butter continually with a wooden spatula for about 5 mins on medium high heat. Your butter will start to froth and turn from yellow to brown. Turn off heat when it turns brown and let's prepare your mixing bowl.

  12. Step 12

    For this step you'll need:

Clean and dry your main mixing bowl. Add your powdered sugar, vanilla extract and milk into the bowl. Next, pour your brown butter sauce in and mix everything together. Having a mixer is optional for this recipe as butter cream can be mixed by hand with a whisk.

  13. Step 13

    For this step you'll need:
    • Knife For Icing
    • Chopped Pecans From Step 2
When your cookies are completely cooled, it's time to ice them. Brown Buttercream Frosting dries fast so you'll need to ice one cookie at a time and then quickly sprinkle the remaining chopped pecans from step 2 on top for decoration. If you ice all the cookies at once and then try to sprinkle the pecans on, the frosting will have already harden and the pecan toppings won't stick. (It's also OK to just have the icing and no pecan toppings. Whatever you want to do!)
  14. The Best Part!

    For this step you'll need:
    • Your Appetite :-)
Once done, feel free to indulge in these super soft cookies that have a nutty, cinnamon flavor complemented by a caramel tasting buttercream frosting. I think these are perfect for Autumn.  :-) I hope you like it!
